About Hypnotherapy

Lack of awareness combined with media has lead to widespread misconceptions and myths about it and it's application in therapy...

MYTH 1: HYPNOTISTS CAN MAKE YOU THINK YOU ARE A CHICKEN OR THAT YOU ARE MARRIED TO A MOP - In a therapeutic setting with a clinical hypnotherapist (i.e. not a stage hypnotist) so that is all that will occur. The process works because the client and hypnotist support each other.

MYTH 2: HYPNOTISTS SWING A WATCH UNTIL YOU FALL ASLEEP - Hypnotherapists rarely do this. It is one technique that can be used but there are many others. I don't use this particular method myself I prefer one that can be used to hypnotise people online or that people can use themselves in the comfort of their own home.

MYTH 3: PEOPLE CAN GET STUCK IN HYPNOSIS - This is simply not true. If it were...where are these people? Hypnosis is easy to go into and easy to get out of.

MYTH 4: IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO YOUR HYPNOTHERAPIST YOU WILL BECOME STUCK IN HYPNOSIS - Again this is not true. A person will eventually get bored and will just get up when they feel like it. The hypnotherapist holds no special power over the client whatsoever. In fact a person can hypnotise themselves (self-hypnosis) and they can come out of hypnosis whenever they choose.

MYTH 5: HYPNOTISTS HAVE MAGICAL POWERS - A hypnotherapist is a normal person who eats and drinks, feels happy and sad, needs to sleep and mislays things. Hypnotists have been trained and have honed this training with experience to help guide clients into a hypnotic state.
